AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 20-7-567 SO AS TO CREATE A MISDEMEANOR FOR KNOWINGLY MAKING A FALSE REPORT OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Misdemeanor to knowingly make a false report of abuse or neglect; penalties
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
Section 20-7-567. (A) It is unlawful to knowingly make a false report of abuse or neglect.
(B) A person who violates subsection (A) is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than five thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
