A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 30-4-43 SO AS TO PROHIBIT A STATE AGENCY, DEPARTMENT, OR COMMISSION FROM SELLING OR DISTRIBUTING A PERSON'S NAME AND INFORMATION ABOUT A MOTOR VEHICLE HE OWNS AND TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 30-4-43. No state agency, department, or commission may sell or distribute information containing a person's name and information about a motor vehicle he owns. The provisions of this section do not apply to law enforcement agencies or other state agencies where the information is directly related to the statutory duties and responsibilities of the agency."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
