A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE SYMPATHY OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF THE LATE RAYMOND J. "RAY" HAYES.

Whereas, although he was born in Garrison, North Dakota, the son of Hazel Willets Hayes McAteer and the late John Curtis Hayes, Raymond J. "Ray" Hayes quickly endeared himself to all South Carolinians with whom he came in contact; and

Whereas, his thirty-three-year military career included service in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam; and

Whereas he was a recipient of numerous medals, including the Legion of Merit Award, the highest military peacetime award, and the Victory Cross of Gallantry with Palm; and

Whereas, he was an active member of the Lexington County Republican Party and had co-chaired the Chapin Committee for Joe Wilson for State Senate in 1984; and

Whereas, he is survived by his wife, Bobbie Laney Hayes of Chapin; his mother, Mrs. Hazel Willets Hayes McAteer of Waxhaw, North Carolina; a daughter, Wendy Hayes Herndon of Yemassee; sons, Randall B. And Michael R. Hayes of Chapin; grandsons, William Raymond Herndon, Jr., of Richmond Hills, Georgia, Travis B., Joshua S., Ramon M., Benjamin M., and Daniel Grady Hayes of Chapin; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Elise Herndon of Richmond Hills, Georgia; and

Whereas, he was a noble and patriotic citizen and was devoted to his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate extend sympathy to the family and many friends of the late Raymond J. "Ray" Hayes of Chapin.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his family.
