A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE FLAT STANLEY FOR VISITING THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1997, AND FOR SPENDING THE ENTIRE DAY WITH REPRESENTATIVE GEORGE H. BAILEY AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

Whereas, Flat Stanley is a fictional boy in a story by Jeff Brown relating to a boy who gets flattened by his bulletin board when it falls on him during the night; and

Whereas, earlier this week, a facsimile of Flat Stanley started the day at 6:00 a.m. responding to a fire at a local plant in Harleyville. At 9:00 a.m. Flat Stanley was introduced at the Dorchester County Centennial Celebration-Cachet Dedication in Dorchester; and

Whereas, Flat Stanley was introduced to the South Carolina House of Representatives, and to the South Carolina Senate, and then later attended a full Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee meeting in Columbia; and

Whereas, Flat Stanley was introduced at the Dorchester County Council meeting in St. George, South Carolina, where Representative Bailey presented a concurrent resolution commending Dorchester County on its one hundred year anniversary. After this Flat Stanley traveled back to Columbia to attend the 40th birthday party of Governor David M. Beasley where he was given a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle and black leather jacket. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby recognize Flat Stanley for visiting the South Carolina General Assembly on Tuesday, February 25, 1997, and for spending the entire day with Representative George H. Bailey and other members of the General Assembly.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

Master David Hugh Vaimberg.
