TO CONGRATULATE MR. MARSHALL KIRBY OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING AND ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER AS A BAND DIRECTOR AND FOR BEING SELECTED FOR INDUCTION INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.

Whereas, Mr. Marshall Kirby of Spartanburg County has been selected to be inducted into the South Carolina Band Directors Association Hall of Fame on March 9, 1997; and

Whereas, Mr. Kirby will be the only active band director in the Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, Mr. Kirby has a long and illustrious career as a band director, teacher, and musician; and

Whereas, Mr. Kirby began teaching band instruments while at Converse College, where he received both a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Performance and a Master of Music Education degrees; and

Whereas, he began his post college teaching career at Jonesville High School as band director and since 1987 has served as the band director at Boiling Springs High School; and

Whereas, Mr. Kirby has received numerous awards, attained countless accomplishments, and has held many positions of leadership as a band director and musician; and

Whereas, Mr. Kirby is a devoted teacher and instructor and is beloved, admired, and held in the highest esteem by his students and their parents; and

Whereas, we are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such an outstanding individual and to wish him well in all his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulates Mr. Marshall Kirby of Spartanburg County for his outstanding and illustrious career as a band director and for being selected for induction into the South Carolina Band Directors Association Hall of Fame.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the principal of Boiling Springs High School, P. O. Box 16130, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29316.
