A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROLMAN SERGEANT FIRST CLASS JAMES D. SHAY OF GREENWOOD COUNTY UPON HIS DEATH.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of South Carolina Highway Patrolman Sergeant First Class James D. Shay of Greenwood County on February 5, 1997; and

Whereas, Sergeant First Class Shay joined the South Carolina Highway Patrol in March 1969; and

Whereas, after graduating from highway patrolman school he was stationed in Edgefield County until 1994; and

Whereas, he received several promotions throughout his career as a highway patrolman and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class in October 1994 and served with distinction in this capacity until his death; and

Whereas, he was above all a devoted husband and a good father to his two children; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their sincere condolences to his widow, daughters, other family members, and friends upon the death of this truly fine man. Now, therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their deepest sympathy to the family of Sergeant First Class James D. Shay of Greenwood County upon his death.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Henrietta Shay.
