TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AT THE DEATH OF SERGEANT FIRST CLASS JAMES D. SHAY OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Sergeant First Class James D. Shay of the South Carolina Highway Patrol died on February 5, 1997; and
Whereas, he was one of the most respected troopers on the force, had an exemplary record as a highway patrolman, and was an outstanding role model as a state trooper, having joined the highway patrol in March, 1969; and
Whereas, he was promoted to Trooper First Class in 1972, Corporal in 1989, Sergeant in 1993, and Sergeant First Class in 1994; and
Whereas, he was initially stationed in Edgefield County and remained there until 1994 and was transferred to Greenwood County in 1994 and remained there until his death; and
Whereas, he is survived by his devoted wife, Henrietta and loving daughters, Sonya and Tracy; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives grieve over the loss of this fine man and excellent state trooper and want his family and friends to know that they have the members of the House of Representatives' love, prayers, and support during this very difficult time. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express profound sorrow at the death of Sergeant First Class James D. Shay of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sergeant First Class Shay's family.
