A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING CAROLINE MACK, A NATIVE OF LEE COUNTY, ON WINNING THE CROWN AND TITLE OF MISS BLACK USA 1997.

Whereas, Caroline Mack, a Lee County native and a graduate of Bishopville High School, was crowned Miss Black USA in Washington, D.C. on February 23, 1997; and

Whereas, Ms. Mack is the daughter of Helen and Jerry Mack of Elliott, South Carolina; her year-long reign will include touring the United States, making trips to London and South Africa, and raising public awareness for issues that include artistic education and domestic violence; she was also chosen as the national spokesperson for breast cancer awareness; and

Whereas, Ms. Mack competed in the national pageant as Miss Black North Carolina; she graduated from Bishopville High School here in the Palmetto State in 1989, received a bachelor's degree in musical performance from Converse College in Spartanburg, and earned her master's degree in music from the University of North Carolina in 1995; and

Whereas, she is a beautiful, talented, intelligent, and articulate young woman; we are extremely proud of this delightful and outstanding native South Carolinian and know that her reign as Miss Black USA will be rewarding for her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, on behalf of all the citizens of the Palmetto State, congratulates Caroline Mack, a native of Lee County, on winning the crown and title of Miss Black USA 1997.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Mack.
