SALUTING PLEASANT GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH OF MARION FOR ITS GREAT DEDICATION TO HUMANITARIANISM AND FOR ITS GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN REBUILDING AFTER THE DEVASTATION IT EXPERIENCED AS THE RESULT OF A TORNADO AND DECLARING APRIL 7, 1997 AS PLEASANT GROVE DAY IN MARION COUNTY.

Whereas, a devastating tornado destroyed Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Marion last October; however, it was only the church edifice that was destroyed -- not the real church itself or the congregation's indomitable spirit and faith; and

Whereas, the congregation of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church has genuine perseverance; the church was willing to endure hardship and adverse conditions and worked to erect a new edifice for worship; and

Whereas, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church is led and guided by Dr. A.C. Robinson, its dynamic and highly-respected pastor; the church's wonderful congregation is known for its stewardship, dedication to Christian ideals, and untiring support for humankind -- especially the indigent and homeless; and

Whereas, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church has set an outstanding example for other congregations to follow; we share in the church's joy at the erection and dedication of the new edifice for worship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Marion for its great dedication to humanitarianism and for its great accomplishment in rebuilding after the devastation it experienced as the result of a tornado and declares April 7, 1997 as Pleasant Grove Day in Marion County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
