TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND JAMES W. RICHARDSON FOR HIS DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE CITY OF BEAUFORT.
Whereas, James W. Richardson has been a successful business owner in downtown Beaufort for sixty years and is now retiring from his shoe repair business; and
Whereas, Mr. Richardson was appointed to the city's Task Force on Zoning and Land Use on September 13, 1983, and to the city's Business License Ordinance Review Committee on December 8, 1987, and served until the goals of the committees were resolved; and
Whereas, Mr. Richardson has been active in his church, First African Baptist, and served on the Beaufort County Board of Elections and Voter Registration for more than twenty years as a member and chairman; and
Whereas, Mr. Richardson has been an integral part of the political fabric of the Beaufort community for many years and has been an outstanding community leader, making many significant contributions to the betterment of the community; and
Whereas, Mr. Richardson's leadership and integrity have made Beaufort a better place to live; and
Whereas, the City of Beaufort and all Beaufortonians wish to express their appreciation and commend James W. Richardson for his interest and involvement in civic and cultural affairs, as February 22, 1997, is proclaimed as "James W. Richardson Day" by the City of Beaufort.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, wish to thank James W. Richardson for his many years of selfless dedication and service to the city of Beaufort.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James W. Richardson.
