TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 1-1-705 SO AS TO DESIGNATE SANDLAPPER, THE MAGAZINE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AS THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF THE STATE.
Whereas, Sandlapper, the Magazine of South Carolina, was first published in 1968; and
Whereas, the magazine is published today by Sandlapper Society, Incorporated, a nonprofit educational organization; and
Whereas, Sandlapper magazine has been telling South Carolina's story since 1968, and is read by people of all ages and diverse backgrounds; and
Whereas, Sandlapper, the Magazine of South Carolina, focuses on the history, heritage, culture, hospitality, and positive aspects of the State; and
Whereas, this magazine informs people across this Nation and in several foreign countries of events, attractions, businesses, and accomplishments in South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 9, Chapter 1, Title 1 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 1-1-705. (A) Sandlapper, the Magazine of South Carolina, is designated as the official magazine of the State. The designation of Sandlapper as the official magazine of the State is an honorary designation and does not bind this State in any way.
(B) The opinions and statements made in the magazine do not express any official position of this State.
(C) The official designation does not affect the magazine's right to accept or refuse advertising.
(D) The official designation is not intended to suggest that the magazine is funded by public funds. However, nothing in this section prohibits a state agency from using public funds to support the magazine in its regular operation."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
