A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING ST. PAUL A.M.E. CHURCH SHAWFIELD ON ITS ONE HUNDRED NINETEENTH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, St. Paul A.M.E. Church Shawfield is celebrating its one hundred nineteenth anniversary during homecoming festivities on April 27, 1997; and

Whereas, the church had its origins in the nineteenth century; on July 28, 1919, the trustees purchased an acre of land for one hundred dollars for the church, and the present building is the third one to be called St. Paul A.M.E. Church; and

Whereas, many dedicated Christians have pastored the church; St. Paul has been an integral part of the community since its beginning; St. Paul Grade School provided a firm educational foundation for many; in 1965 the church was remodeled; the Educational Annex was added in 1968 and additional annexes were finished in 1977 and 1993; the church has made steady growth and progress physically, financially, and spiritually over the years and flourishes today as a beacon of faith, hope, and love; and

Whereas, we are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize such a fine religious institution on this happy occasion, and we share in the joy of its celebration and homecoming festivities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate St. Paul A.M.E. Church Shawfield on its one hundred nineteenth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to St. Paul A.M.E. Church Shawfield.
