A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE RICHARD WINN ACADEMY "EAGLES" FOOTBALL TEAM FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 1996 CLASS AA SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Richard Winn Academy "Eagles" Football Team clinched their second consecutive South Carolina Independent Schools Association State Championship by defeating previously unbeaten St. Andrews School in Savannah, Georgia, 52-0 on November 15, 1996; and

Whereas, in winning the 1996 title, the Eagles of Richard Winn Academy extended their winning streak to twenty-six games, which is currently the longest winning streak in the State; and

Whereas, the Eagles Football Team had 5,644 yards total offense for the season, scored 577 points (average 44 points per game), and allowed only 81 points (6 points per game average); and

Whereas, the individual accomplishments of these outstanding athletes are: eight all-region players; five SCISAA all-stars; four "High School Sports Report" SCISAA Super 20; two "High School Sports Report" co-players of the year; and five All-State players (The State); and

Whereas, this impressive level of competition could not have been accomplished without the leadership and guidance of Head Coach David Porter, along with his Assistant Coaches Sam Copeland, Bill Melton, and Mike Robinson; and

Whereas, this superb football team was well taken care of by Managers Joseph Schachner, J. T. Crossland, and Johnny Ray Proctor; and

Whereas, the Richard Winn Academy Football Team consisted of Michael Anderson, Brady Branham, Brent Branham, Heath Caldwell, Brad Caulder, Joseph Cope, Julian Hamilton, Bob Harkins, Ben Hinnant, Ken Hornsby, Tanner Pope, Ben Porter, Tyler Porter, Troy Porter, Joe Renwick, Travis Simpson, Martin Timms, Matthew Wagaman, Matthew Wilkes, and Dennis Wilson; and

Whereas, the students, parents, and school administration of Fairfield County have provided the support and encouragement necessary to achieve this highest level of consistency in high school football; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Palmetto State are extremely proud of the Richard Winn Academy "Eagles" Football Team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby congratulate the Richard Winn Academy "Eagles" Football Team for an exceptional season and on capturing the 1996 Class AA South Carolina Independent Schools Association State Football Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach David Porter and Headmaster F. Carroll Taylor of Richard Winn Academy.
