A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO ERSKINE "KINGFISH OF THE PEE DEE" GRIGGS OF DARLINGTON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND TO WISH HIM AND HIS WIFE, JOANNE, WELL IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very proud to learn that Erskine "Kingfish of the Pee Dee" Griggs is finally retiring as Vice President of System Operations with Pee Dee Electric Cooperative after forty-two years; and

Whereas, he began his career with Pee Dee Electric Cooperative in November of 1954 as the second service man in the Darlington district (Hurricane Hazel had just come through); advanced to the position of crew leader; promoted to Service Supervisor in 1972; and was further elevated by being named Vice President of System Operations in 1976; and

Whereas, Erskine Griggs has managed line construction, line maintenance, line extension, service personnel, right-of-way clearing, warehousing, and as his colleagues stated, "he's the chief cook and bottlewasher, keeps everything running"; and

Whereas, he was born April 14, 1932, on a farm in Byrdtown Community; his father died when he was only ten years old and the family moved to Darlington; and his mother wanted him to be a preacher, but instead he attended college for two years, majoring in pharmacy; and

Whereas, the "Kingfish of the Pee Dee" is a devoted husband to his wife, the proud father of nine children, and grandfather of thirteen wonderful grandchildren; and

Whereas, this distinguished gentleman has served as a role model to his employer, employees, and community through his convictions because he practices them every moment of every day; and

Whereas, Erskine "Kingfish of the Pee Dee" Griggs is truly outstanding, as the title bestowed on him indicates, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend sincere congratulations to Erskine "Kingfish of the Pee Dee" Griggs of Darlington County on the occasion of his retirement and wish him and his wife, Joanne, well in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Erskine "Kingfish of the Pee Dee" Griggs.
