A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE SPARTANBURG HIGH SCHOOL'S GOLF COACH JOHN CRAIG ON HIS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE SOUTH CAROLINA AAAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS HE RETIRES FROM THE COACHING FIELD TO ENTER THE ARENA OF EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION.

Whereas, the Spartanburg High School Golf Team won the 1997 AAAA State Golf Tournament at Furman University Golf Course with a score of 907 for the 54-hole event; and

Whereas, this year's trophy-winning effort marks the fourth State 4A Championship in a row for the Spartanburg Vikings and their head coach John Craig; and

Whereas, no other AAAA golf team in the State has accomplished that feat in the history of high school golf; and

Whereas, Coach Craig's teams have an overall record of 239-38-2 since 1981, including six state championships and eleven regional titles; and

Whereas, Viking Coach John Craig is honored as Coach of the Year for this season's effort, a repeat of his honor received in 1984; and

Whereas, Coach Craig is retiring from his coaching duties to enter the field of educational administration. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Spartanburg High School's Golf Coach John Craig on his fourth consecutive South Carolina AAAA Golf Championship, and recognize his career achievements as he retires from the coaching field to enter the arena of educational administration.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Craig.
