EXTENDING THE SYMPATHY OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF LEWIS B. PARRIS, SR., OF BOILING SPRINGS ON THE SAD OCCASION OF HIS DEATH ON MAY 18, 1997.
Whereas, Lewis B. Parris, Sr., of Boiling Springs died on May 18, 1997, at the age of seventy-eight years; and
Whereas, the Washington, D.C., native was the son of the late John Farrow and Ida Mae Peace Parris; and
Whereas, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ballard Parris; three sons, Lou Parris and John Parris of Spartanburg and Tommy Parris of Campobello; four daughters, Jean Fortune of Raleigh, Willodean Hoskins of High Point, Parmala Gabbert of Jacksonville, and Mary Parris of the home; seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Jane Hoenstine of Bedford, Pennsylvania; and
Whereas, he will be missed not only by his loving family, but also by the church and the community that he served so well; and
Whereas, he was a faithful member of Beaumont Baptist Church where he was an usher, a former president of the Golden Circle and of the Brotherhood, an outreach leader for his Sunday School class, and a member of the Hospitality Committee; and
Whereas, the United States Army veteran of World War II was a member of the American Legion and a volunteer for Mobile Meals; and
Whereas, Lewis B. Parris, Sr., was held in high esteem by those who knew him as a man of honor, integrity, and wisdom. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly extend their sympathy to the family and friends of Lewis B. Parris, Sr., of Boiling Springs on the sad occasion of his death on May 18, 1997.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Parris.
