EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL MEN'S TRACK TEAM UPON WINNING THE 1996-97 CLASS AAAA STATE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP AND EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' TRACK TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR EARNING THE RUNNER-UP HONORS IN THE REGION IV CLASS AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Sumter High School Men's Track Team finished their season undefeated in regular competition; and

Whereas, the men's track team won the Region IV Class AAAA Championship, the Lower State Championship, and closed their season by capturing the 1996-97 Class AAAA State Track and Field Championship; and

Whereas, the Sumter "Lady Gamecocks" finished their season by earning the runner-up honors in the Region IV Class AAAA Championship and in the Lower State Championship; and

Whereas, the girls' track team finished fourth in the 1996-97 Class AAAA State Track and Field Championship; and

Whereas, these young athletes are to be commended for their dedication, talent, hard work, and cooperative efforts; and

Whereas, under the excellent coaching of Head Coach Al Dunn and his assistant coaches the Sumter "Gamecocks" have brought great pride and recognition to Sumter High School, their community, and to the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby extend hearty congratulations to the Sumter High Men's Track Team upon winning the 1996-97 Class AAAA State Track and Field Championship and extend congratulations to the Sumter High School Girls' Track Team for an outstanding season and for earning the runner-up honors in the Region IV Class AAAA Championship.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Al Dunn and to Dr. Kay Raffield, Principal of Sumter High School.
