A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND DR. JAMES A. BOYKIN OF LANCASTER FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A TRUSTEE OF SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THIS OFFICE.

Whereas, Dr. James A. Boykin is one of South Carolina's most distinguished physicians and public officials; and

Whereas, he is a native of Lancaster, received his B. S. and M. S. degrees from South Carolina State College, and received his M. D. from the Howard University College of Medicine; and

Whereas, Dr. Boykin has been a family practitioner in Lancaster since 1963, and in this capacity has taken care of hundreds, if not thousands, of patients in Lancaster and surrounding communities; and

Whereas, he has also served his community and state in many varied ways and has received numerous honors and awards in recognition of his unselfish service; and

Whereas, Dr. Boykin became a member of the board of trustees of South Carolina State College in 1965, and in this position helped guide this fine university through four decades of growth, service, and change; and

Whereas, it is with deep and sincere regret that the members of the General Assembly have learned of his retirement as the senior trustee on the board this year; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this outstanding South Carolinian for his loyal and dedicated service to South Carolina State University upon the occasion of his retirement from the board of trustees and for his many other contributions to the State of South Carolina as a physician and community leader. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Dr. James A. Boykin of Lancaster for his many years of dedicated service as a trustee of South Carolina State University upon his retirement from this office.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

Dr. James A. Boykin.
