A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING CLAES PERSSON OF LANDER UNIVERSITY FOR HIS ROLE IN ASSISTING LANDER WIN THE 1997 NCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL MENS TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, Claes Persson, a member of Lander University's 1997 NCAA Division II National Mens Tennis Championship Team, played number one singles for the University for the third consecutive season; and

Whereas, this season he was named an All-American, an Academic All-American, Senior Player of the Year, Peach Belt Player of the Year, Lander Athlete of the Year, and the Dan McGill Award winner; and

Whereas, during his four years of intercollegiate tennis competition at Lander, Claes helped Lander win four consecutive national championships and four consecutive Peach Belt championships; and

Whereas, he has been ranked as high as number one in the nation in singles and currently is ranked number two in singles and number one in doubles; and

Whereas, a junior majoring in economics/finance, Claes has excelled academically by earning an overall grade point average of 3.7; and

Whereas, his contributions to Lander's 1997 NCAA Division II National Mens Tennis Championship Team is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina congratulates Claes Persson of Lander University for his role in assisting Lander win the 1997 NCAA Division II National Mens Tennis Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Claes Persson.
