CONGRATULATING COACH JOSEPH CABRI, LANDER UNIVERSITY MENS TENNIS COACH, FOR LEADING THE UNIVERSITY'S MENS TENNIS TEAM TO ITS NINTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND ON HIS SUCCESS AS AN OUTSTANDING FACULTY MEMBER.
Whereas, Joseph Cabri has led Lander University's Mens Tennis Team to its ninth national championship by winning the 1997 NCAA Division II crown; and
Whereas, the 1997 championship is the seventh consecutive national championship captured by Lander's Mens Tennis Team; and
Whereas, four of the mens team championships are NAIA titles while five are NCAA Division II titles; and
Whereas, two players on the 1997 squad were All-Americans, five were Academic All-Americans, one was named Senior Player, and the team earned its sixth consecutive Peach Belt Athletic Conference Championship with a perfect 20-0 record; and
Whereas, Coach Cabri's national championship team was composed of a squad of academically talented student athletes with a team grade point ratio of 3.4 and an average grade point ratio of 3.8 for its graduating seniors, of whom four are enrolling in graduate school; and
Whereas, the 1997 team's athletic and academic successes earned Coach Cabri his eighth National Coach of the Year Award; and
Whereas, one of the nation's winningest college tennis coaches, Coach Cabri is a member of the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame and the NAIA Hall of Fame, winner of eight National Coach of the Year titles, two South Carolina Coach of the Year titles, six NAIA District VI Coach of the Year titles, and two NCAA Peach Belt Athletic Conference Coach of the Year titles; and
Whereas, Coach Cabri has led his players to forty-two All-American titles and eighteen Academic All-American titles; and
Whereas, he also has served as an outstanding professor in the mathematics department since 1972 and served as chairman of the original governance committee in 1973 and several terms as chairman of its Executive Committee and its Faculty Council; and
Whereas, Coach Cabri's leadership as Head Coach of Lander University's Mens Tennis Team and outstanding service as a faculty member is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Coach Joseph Cabri, Lander University Tennis Coach, for leading the University's Mens Tennis Team to its ninth national championship and on his success as an outstanding faculty member.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Joseph Cabri.
