A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING WACCAMAW HIGH SCHOOL OF PAWLEYS ISLAND ON BEING SELECTED TO RECEIVE THE DOE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION GRANT BASED UPON THE EFFORTS AND STUDIES OF MARY GINNY DUBOSE, ENGLISH DEPARTMENT CHAIR AT THE SCHOOL.

Whereas, in the summers of 1993, 1994, and 1995, Mary Ginny DuBose, English Department Chair of Waccamaw High School at Pawleys Island, attended the Bread Loaf School of English of Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont on a DeWitt-Wallace Readers' Digest Fellowship; Ms. DuBose returned to Waccamaw High, following these studies, with knowledge of technology gained in Vermont so as to allow her students to get on -line and share in conferences across the country with other BLRTN Fellows and their students; she began the "BreadNet Class" for her students; the BreadNet Class has combined student writings, on-line conferences, and publications; this and other efforts have proved to be of tremendous benefit to the students of Waccamaw High; and

Whereas, based on the above, Waccamaw High School has been chosen to receive the very prestigious DOE Technology Innovation Grant and is one of only ten schools in the United States to receive this very special award; and

Whereas, Mary Ginny DuBose and Waccamaw High School have thus brought much honor and prestige to Pawleys Island, Georgetown County , and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, we are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize Ms. DuBose and Waccamaw High for this great accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Waccamaw High School of Pawleys Island on being selected to receive the DOE Technology Innovation Grant based upon the efforts and studies of Mary Ginny DuBose, English Department Chair at the school.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. DuBose and Waccamaw High School.
