A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONDOLENCES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF OVALYN KELLEY LATHAN, OF SUMTER COUNTY, WHO DIED MONDAY, JUNE 2, 1997.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were extremely saddened to learn of the death of Ovalyn Kelley Lathan, on Monday, June 2, 1997; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lathan was born in Tamassee, South Carolina and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as President of the Women of the Church, as well as having served on numerous committees; and

Whereas, she was a Pastor's Aide and a loyal and dedicated member of the McLaurin Sunday School Class; and

Whereas, she was the recipient of the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership and was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Circle, as well as Circle No. 4; and

Whereas, along with her late husband, Claude Fleetwood Lathan, Jr., she was co-founder of Lathan Oil Company in 1944, and was active in the business until her retirement in 1984; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend condolescences to the friends and family of Ovalyn Kelley Lathan, of Sumter County on the loss of their loved one.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Edwin Kelley Lathan, Sr.
