A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH CAROLINA CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BENCH AND BAR SPOUSES, INCORPORATED, ON ITS FOURTH ANNIVERSARY AND WISHING IT MUCH SUCCESS IN ITS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the National Association of Bench and Bar Spouses was founded by the late Dr. Fredda Witherspoon in St. Louis, Missouri, in August, 1951; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Bench and Bar Spouses (SCNABBS) was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in October, 1993, in Columbia, South Carolina; and

Whereas, SCNABBS' members are the spouses of attorneys, judges, and law students in South Carolina; and

Whereas, its membership is composed of the following individuals: Malvina Scott, President; Tamara Curry, Esquire, Vice President; Sonja McIntosh, Secretary; Karen Grant, Treasurer; Lynne Rogers, Esquire, Parliamentarian; Judy Battiste; Jackie Belton, Esquire; Maris Cannon; Denise Code; Raynette Cromartie; Jean Cureton, Esquire; Edwardo Curry, Esquire; Katherine Davis; Dr. Laverne Davis; Vernita Dore; Gay Nell Duckett; Tarita Dunbar, Esquire; Elaine Finney; Dr. Felica Finney; Frances Finney; Barbara Gibbs; Jean Gray; Seneca Henry; Reba Hough-Martin; Zina Hudson; Margaret Jenkins; Tiffany Jennings; Doris Johnson; Benita Lefft; Shirley Jean Levy; Marthena Morant; Betty Mosley; Deidre Murph; Rita O'Neal; Hallie Perry; Nathalie Pride; LaBarbara Sampson; Anna Smith; Brenda Smith; Rita Stanley; Marcia Walters; Ella Wells; and Sharon Wilson; and

Whereas, SCNABBS' purpose is to promote charitable and educational endeavors which include: a cohesive relationship among spouses of lawyers at the national, state, and local levels; enhancing the prestige of the legal profession through educational, civic, and cultural efforts; and enhancing the knowledge and the awareness of students about civic, cultural, academic, and economic issues; and

Whereas, its service projects include: awarding legal scholarships, sponsoring law education programs, and organizing a speakers' bureau to provide role models who encourage students; and

Whereas, SCNABBS' fourth anniversary is truly a special occasion that we are pleased to accord special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Bench and Bar Spouses, Inc., on its fourth anniversary and wishing it much success in its future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Bench and Bar Spouses, Inc., in care of its founder, Maris Cannon.
