TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT THE DEATH OF FORMER SPARTANBURG COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR HUBERT E. JOHNSON AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Hubert E. Johnson of Spartanburg; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson died after an extended illness on June 12, 1997, at the age of seventy; and
Whereas, a native of Aiken, Hubert Johnson was the son of the late Charles P. and Lelia Anderson Johnson; and
Whereas, he was a 1944 graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Cecil's Business College; and
Whereas, he served his country in the United States Navy and the Navy Reserves. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of World War II; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Wood Johnson; two daughters, Sandra Johnson Campbell of Spartanburg and Susan Johnson Collier of Marietta, Georgia; a son, Alan Preston Johnson of Spartanburg; and nine grandchildren
Whereas, Hubert Johnson became Assistant County Administrator and later was selected to serve as the County Administrator for Spartanburg County. He also worked with the Soil Conservation Service and served as Business Manager with Sherman Chiropractic College; and
Whereas, he was elected to the Spartanburg County Council in 1979 and served until 1983, having held the position of Vice Chairman; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Spartanburg, Spartan Masonic Lodge No. 70, and a Shriner; and
Whereas, he was an outstanding individual who was deeply committed to people and to his community, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him; and
Whereas, we want the members of his family and many friends to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts and prayers. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow at the death of former Spartanburg County Administrator Hubert E. Johnson and extend their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Mary Anne Wood Johnson.
