A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF THE REVEREND JIM H. CONLEY OF GREENVILLE AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY, CONGREGATION, AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the Reverend Jim H. Conley of Greenville died January 13, 1998, at the age of 65; and

Whereas, he was born in Wingate, Texas and was the Senior Pastor of Heritage Bible Church in Greenville; and

Whereas, Rev. Conley came to Heritage Bible Church in 1979 on a part-time basis and he had previously pastored Jackson Baptist Church near Sylvania, Georgia; and

Whereas,he received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Bob Jones University and studied music at the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, and the University of Michigan; and

Whereas, Pastor Conley was an immensly talented musician, a professional french hornist and conductor, and shared the gospel and his musical gifts throughout America, and in several foreign countries, including Taiwan, Germany, and France; and

Whereas, he was chairman of the Brass Department at Bob Jones University from 1960-1983 and Band Director from 1954-1983, and under his leadership both departments attained national prominence; and

Whereas, in 1983, Rev. Conley began pastoring Heritage Bible Church fulltime, shepherding this vibrant congregation and overseeing its rapid and successful growt; and

Whereas, he was dedicated to faithful exposition of the scripture, very supportive of mission endeavors, and committed to church planting; the first church quickly matured in two short years across town in Greenville and another congregation is in full growth in Spartanburg; and

Whereas, Reverend Conley was a highly respected and truly admired minister of the gospel, a beloved pastor to his people, a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather; he will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow on the death of the Reverend Jim H. Conley of Greenville, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family, congregation, and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Reverend Conley.
