A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE SINCERE BEST WISHES OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MR. DRINK "BLUES DOCTOR" SMALL, A NATIVE OF BISHOPVILLE, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS SIXTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, Mr. Drink Small, Midlands bluesman, born in Bishopville, South Carolina, is celebrating his sixty-fifth birthday today; and

Whereas, Drink, a musical prodigy, who taught himself to play and read music, has played the guitar since he was three years old, starting on a guitar made of rubber bands and a broom stick; and

Whereas, Mr. Small, a fixture on the blues scene not only here in the Midlands, but across the State, has also played throughout the country, and in cities around the world; and

Whereas, Drink is a 1991 recipient of the South Carolina Heritage award, recognizing his outstanding achievements in his craft; and

Whereas, Drink Small has also given much back to the Palmetto State through his participation in the "Blues in the School Program", performing and conducting seminars on the history and heritage of the blues; and

Whereas, Drink, affectionately known as the "Blues Doctor", who played the Midlands for decades, still has a very loyal and faithful following; his performances bring a smile to his audiences and a rhythmic tap to their toes; and

Whereas, he is truly a South Carolina legend and beloved by all who have known him and his music. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their sincere best wishes to Mr. Drink "Blues Doctor" Small, a native of Bishopville, South Carolina, on the occasion of this sixty-fifth birthday.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Drink Small.
