A BILL

TO AMEND CHAPTER 3, TITLE 56, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO VEHICLE REGISTRATION AND LICENSING, BY ADDING ARTICLE 78 TO PROVIDE FOR SPECIAL MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE PLATES FOR MEMBERS OF THE SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 3, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Article 78

Sons of Confederate Veterans License Plates

Section 56-3-7800. (A) The department shall issue special motor vehicle license plates to members of the `Sons of Confederate Veterans' for private motor vehicles registered in their names. The annual fee for such special license plates shall be the same as the fee provided for in Section 56-3-2020. The plate must be issued or revalidated biannually for the regular registration and licensing period.

(B) The department shall consult with the Commander of the South Carolina Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans to design the special license plates. Every five years the department must assess the cost of production, administration, and issuance of this plate and provide this information to the General Assembly."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
