A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO OFFER THE BEST WISHES AND HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE BELOVED MR. MACK WILLIE RHODES OF SUMTER COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION.

Whereas, Mack Willie Rhodes was born in Clarendon County on February 25, 1898; and

Whereas, he is the grandson of a slave owner and is the second oldest of fifteen children; and

Whereas, Mr. Rhodes is affectionately addressed as "Papa" by his eight living children, thirty-six grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mr. Rhodes' family, good values, and good living are his most cherished possessions; and

Whereas, he has always been a community-oriented person and has generously offered his assistance to neighbors, friends, and family for many years; and

Whereas, Mr. Rhodes became a member of Melina Presbyterian Church in 1915 and is now the oldest member; and

Whereas, Mr. Rhodes has been a member of the Masonic Lodge Golden Gate No. 73 since 1948; and

Whereas, Mr. Rhodes is known as a contributing member of Sumter County, possessed of the highest principles and morality, a loving father and grandfather, and a faithful friend; and

Whereas, on Saturday, February 14, 1998, family and friends will gather in celebration of Mr. Rhodes' one hundredth birthday; and

Whereas, we would like to take this opportunity to offer a special tribute to Mr. Mack Willie Rhodes, a man of courage and dedication, on a very special day -- his one hundredth birthday . Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina offer their best wishes and heartfelt congratulations to the beloved Mr. Mack Willie Rhodes of Sumter County on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday celebration.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Mack Willie Rhodes.
