TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME AND OUR BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL VISIT TO OUR FRIENDS FROM FRANCE PARTICIPATING IN THE STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH J. L. MANN HIGH SCHOOL.
Whereas, from March 27, 1998, to April 9, 1998, the students, teachers, and school administrators from J. L. Mann High School will be hosting an exchange of twenty-two students and two faculty members from J. L. Mann High School's sister school, The Lycee Godefroy de Bouillon of Clermont-Ferrand, France; and
Whereas, during this period of time these French exchange students and their accompanying faculty will be traveling all over South Carolina and visiting many of its historic sites and attractions; and
Whereas, this program provides many positive learning experiences and presents opportunities for the participants from both countries to enjoy cultural exchanges which otherwise might not be available to them; and
Whereas, this program is a valued resource in teaching respect and tolerance for cultures which differ from ours and helps bond friendships which could not happen without this exchange; and
Whereas, this program will allow our neighbors from France to enjoy the many fine attractions our State has to offer, and allow them to experience the kindness and hospitality for which the citizens of South Carolina are known worldwide; and
Whereas, the J. L. Mann High School Foreign Student Exchange Program is an outstanding model for other schools with similar programs in our State to emulate; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to thank the participants who make this exchange possible and hope for the continued success of this program for many years to come. Now, therefore,
