A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE MR. LES G. McCRAW OF GREENVILLE, ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST DISTINGUISHED BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS, FOR HIS FORTY-TWO YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SERVICE TO THE STATE AND NATION, AND TO THE FLUOR CORPORATION AND ITS PREDECESSOR COMPANIES, UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE FLUOR BOARD.

Whereas, Les G. McCraw was born November 3, 1934, in Greenville, South Carolina, graduated from Clemson University in 1956 with a degree in civil engineering, and, following his first employment as an engineer with Gulf Oil Corporation in Philadelphia and service as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, Mr. McCraw joined DuPont in Delaware, and for the next fifteen years rendered exemplary service to that company while steadily advancing through the ranks of DuPont's engineering and construction divisions; and

Whereas, Mr. McCraw joined Daniel International in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1975 and, after Daniel International was acquired by Fluor Corporation in 1977, was named President of Daniel International in 1982, and, in keeping with his talents and outstanding career development, became the Chief Executive Officer, as well as a Director on Fluor Corporation's Board of Directors in 1984; and

Whereas, when the engineering, construction, and maintenance responsibilities of Daniel International and the Fluor Corporation were joined together in 1988, Mr. McCraw was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the new company, Fluor Daniel, headquartered in Irvine, California, was later named President of Fluor Corporation in 1988, and Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fluor Corporation in 1990, and, while also serving as a Director on the Boards of Allergan, Inc. and New York Life Insurance Company, Mr. McCraw was named Chairman of the Board of Fluor Corporation in 1991; and

Whereas, forever loyal to his alma mater, and in keeping with his spirit of service to his fellowman, Mr. McCraw has rendered sterling public service in a number of capacities including service on the Clemson University President's Advisory Counsel and as a life member of the Board of Trustees for Clemson University, as a sitting member of the Board of Visitors of the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Irvine, and, on a global basis, for the years 1994 and 1995, Mr. McCraw was appointed by the President of the United States to co-chair the Pacific Business Forum, is a Director of the National Committee on United States-China Relations and the US-China Business Council, and is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the British-American Business Council; and

Whereas, Mr. McCraw's national, state and community interests activities include appointment and service to the President's Export Council as well as active membership in both The Business Round Table and the Construction Industry's Presidents Forum, he is also a member of the California Business Round Table, the Palmetto Business Forum in South Carolina, and, in 1995, served as Honorary Chairman of National Engineers Week, board memberships on the Los Angles World Affairs Council, the National Business Committee for the Arts, Inc., and he is a member of the Junior Achievement Orange County Board of Governors, and, in Greenville, South Carolina, he is a member on the Board for the Peace Center Foundation; and

Whereas, as one of South Carolina's most distinguished business and civic leaders, Les G. McCraw's dedication, service, and personal contributions to our state and the nation, and to the world globally, is yet another sterling example that South Carolina has been blessed through the years with the gifts of this talented leader who dedicated so much of his life to giving freely of his time, talent, money, and resources for the betterment of all mankind as well as to his communities, his state, and the nation; and

Whereas, Mr. McCraw is blessed with a wonderful family, including his lovely wife, Mrs. Mary Earle McCraw, and their three sons, Leslie III, James, and John, with whom he enjoys golf, travel, and the arts, it is with a tremendous sense of appreciation that the House of Representatives takes note of Mr. Les G. McCraw's leadership and accomplishments throughout his business career and as a devoted family man upon his retirement from the Fluor board, and the members of the House of Representatives want to extend their congratulations to Mr. Les G. McCraw and wish him and his family the best of health and happiness, on the occasion of his retirement; and to wish him godspeed and every success in his endeavor in his retirement years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Les G. McCraw of Greenville, one of South Carolina's most distinguished business and civic leaders, for his forty-two years of outstanding public and private service to the state and nation, and to the Fluor Corporation and its predecessor companies, upon his retirement from the Fluor board.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Les G. McCraw of Greenville.
