A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE SINCERE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MRS. WILLIS J. CHARLES, PRINCIPAL OF EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HER SELFLESS DEDICATION TO THE STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF OF EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL AND TO CELEBRATE THE LOVE SHE SO FREELY GIVES TO OTHERS.

Whereas, following an outstanding career in education in the California school system, Mrs. Willis J. Charles returned to Columbia with the mission of ensuring that Eau Claire High School be recognized as an outstanding public school of excellence; and

Whereas, Willis J. Charles was born in Columbia, South Carolina, and is the daughter of the late Dr. C.A. Johnson; and

Whereas, following her primary and secondary education, Mrs. Willis Charles graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology; received her Secondary Teaching Credential in Biology from California State University; and continued her quest for knowledge by graduating from California State University with a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration; and

Whereas, knowing that excellence in education goes hand-in-glove with a healthy community, Mrs. Willis Charles immediately joined and formed an alliance with the Eau Claire Rotary Club, initiating the Interact Club at Eau Claire High School; and

Whereas, in collaboration with the Eau Claire Community of Shalom and the Eau Claire Rotary, she arranged for Interact members and other students to tutor at Hyatt Park Elementary School; and

Whereas, seeking visibility for the nationally acclaimed Eau Claire High School Naval ROTC program and its precision drill team, she has arranged appearances throughout the community and the Palmetto State including festivals, parades, and celebrations; and

Whereas, whether initiating or responding, Mrs. Willis Charles has tirelessly worked with every element of the Eau Claire community, not only to restore quality education at Eau Claire High School, but also to bind the Eau Claire area together in a diverse but supportive community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Willis Charles' dedication to her profession reaches far beyond the classroom and has had a positive impact on the careers of numerous young people; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are grateful for her devotion to South Carolina's public education system and delighted to have this opportunity to afford Mrs. Willis J. Charles special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Willis J. Charles, Principal of Eau Claire High School, for her selfless dedication to the students, faculty, and staff of Eau Claire High School and to celebrate the love she so freely gives to others.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Willis J. Charles.
