A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 41-29-170, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO PERMITTED DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION UNDER THE EMPLOYMENT SECURITY LAW, SO AS TO PERMIT THE EMPLOYMENT SECURITY COMMISSION TO PROVIDE TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE EDUCATION ASSISTANCE AUTHORITY OR ITS CONTRACTUAL AGENT WITH INFORMATION FROM ITS RECORDS FOR PURPOSES OF THE COLLECTION OF DEFAULTED STUDENT LOANS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 41-29-170 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 71 of 1997, is amended by adding a new subsection (C) to read:

"(C) The commission shall provide to the South Carolina State Education Assistance Authority or its contractual agent, the South Carolina Student Loan Corporation, upon request, information from its records to the extent necessary for the proper collection of defaulted student loans. The information supplied shall include the name, home address, ordinary occupation, employment status, and employer's address for individuals with defaulted loans."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
