A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE COACH JERRY HARWELL AND THE HEMINGWAY HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS FOR THEIR AA STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO EXPRESS THE PRIDE OF THIS STATE IN THEIR OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENT.

Whereas, the Hemingway High School boys' basketball team defeated Palmetto High School Saturday, March 14, 1998, by a score of 91-75, to win the AA State Championship title; and

Whereas, the Tigers had to overcome a 43-39 half time deficit to claim the crown; and

Whereas, team pride and hustle combined to wipe out the shortfall and produce a 65-56 lead going into the final quarter; and

Whereas, the Hemingway five added twelve of thirteen free throws to Julius Flegler's eleven-point third quarter effort to turn the tide against the Palmetto Mustangs;

Whereas, Tiger Leterrance McFadden scored six of his game-high twenty-four point total early in the final period to ice the victory with a lead the Tigers never relinquished; and

Whereas, Michael Dooper and Phillip Wilson also had double-digit performances in the title match at Carolina Coliseum; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is proud of the athletic efforts of Coach Jerry Harwell's entire Tiger team and its gutsy comeback. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Coach Jerry Harwell and the Hemingway High School Tigers for their AA State Basketball Championship and express the pride of this State in their outstanding athletic achievement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Jerry Harwell.
