TO WELCOME MR. MICHAEL JACKSON, AN INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED EXPERT ON THE BEERS OF THE WORLD, TO SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS WORK AS AN AUTHOR, JOURNALIST, TELEVISION PERSONALITY, AND LECTURER.
Whereas, Michael Jackson is internationally recognized as the leading writer on the beers of the world and has been described by one prominent publication as "the world's leading beer critic". He is a director-at-large of the North American Guild of Beer Writers, is regarded as one of the fathers of the renaissance of interest in beer world wide and especially of the North American micro-brewery movement; and
Whereas, he lives in London but was born in the county of Yorkshire, in the North of England, and he began his working life there as a newspaper reporter, later working in London. He began writing on beer as a sideline and had his first book published in 1976. He now writes exclusively on beer, whisky, other drinks, and travel; and
Whereas, his award-winning television series "The Beer Hunter" has been shown in twelve countries. It was originally produced in Britain in association with The Discovery Channel in the United States and has also run on PBS. He is also a widely acclaimed author whose ten books have been published in fifteen languages, from Spanish to Czech to Japanese; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to welcome this truly knowledgeable and gifted individual to South Carolina on the occasion of his visit to Columbia and commend him for his body of work which has made him the most respected and recognized beer expert in the world. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives welcome Mr. Michael Jackson, an internationally recognized expert on the beers of the world, to South Carolina and commend him for his work as an author, journalist, television personality, and lecturer.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Michael Jackson.
