TO EXTEND THE SINCERE CONDOLENCES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF MELVIN LAWRENCE (MEL) PARKER, JR., WHO DIED FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 1998, AT HIS HOME IN SPARTANBURG.
Whereas, Melvin Lawrence (Mel) Parker, Jr., died Friday, April 10, 1998, at his Spartanburg home; and
Whereas, he was the son of Melvin Lawrence Parker, Sr., and Sarah Ellen Fullbright Parker and was a native of Haywood County, North Carolina; and
Whereas, Mel is also survived by his brother, David Stuart Parker of Spartanburg, and two nieces, Suzanne and Victoria Parker; and
Whereas, the University of South Carolina graduate was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the Montgomery Masonic Lodge; and
Whereas, he combined his knack for business management with a concern for early childhood education and welfare to serve very ably as Administrator for Westgate Child Development Center, ABC Learning Center, Kid's Club House, Children's Services, and Victor Hill Child Care; and
Whereas, under his direction and supervision these institutions were able to offer a safe and productive environment for some of this state's youngest citizens; and
Whereas, his contributions to their well-being will be a vital legacy to the future of Spartanburg County and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina do hereby extend their sincere condolences to the friends and family of Melvin Lawrence (Mel) Parker, Jr., who died Friday, April 10, 1998, at his home in Spartanburg.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lawrence Parker, Sr.
