A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO MATTHEW R. GATES, AN EXCEPTIONAL "SOUTH CAROLINA SEMESTER PROGRAM" STUDENT, FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE AS A LEGISLATIVE INTERN WITH THE HOUSE EDUCATION AND PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE DURING THE 1998 LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

Whereas, of the approximately twenty-six thousand students attending the University of South Carolina, Matthew R. Gates, of Clover, is one of only ten "South Carolina Semester Program" students selected to serve as legislative interns during the 1998 legislative session; and

Whereas, Matthew R. Gates was assigned to the House Education and Public Works Committee, quickly became acquainted with the committee chairman, members, and staff, and adapted himself to the committee's responsibilities and operating procedures; and

Whereas, Matthew R. Gates quickly demonstrated by his loyalty, zeal, and keen interest in education and transportation issues coming before the General Assembly, and in his assignments, projects, work with the committee, that he has much to offer, much more than a passing interest in government, is conscientious and dedicated to a life and career of meaningful public service to his community, state, and nation; and

Whereas, Matthew R. Gates made a unique contribution to the Education and Public Works Committee during the 1998 session, and it is appropriate that the committee and members of the General Assembly recognize him for his extra efforts on their behalf. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives hereby express their appreciation to Matthew R. Gates, and exceptional "South Carolina Semester Program" student, for his exemplary service as a legislative intern with the House Education and Public Works Committee during the 1998 legislative session.

Be it further resolve that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Matthew R. Gates .
