TO RECOGNIZE THE REVEREND SAMUEL NILES MADDEN, PASTOR OF MT. ZION BAPTIST CHURCH IN FOUNTAIN INN, FOR HIS THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF DEVOTED PASTORAL SERVICE AND HIS DEDICATION TO CHRISTIAN EDUCATION THROUGH HIS LEADERSHIP IN THE CONGRESS OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND THE TUMBLING SHOALS ASSOCIATION.
Whereas, The Reverend Samuel Niles Madden was called to pastor Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Fountain Inn in May of 1963, after serving at First Calvary Baptist in Columbia and Bethlehem and Mt. Zion Baptist Churches in Saluda; and
Whereas, this son of the late James and Ruth Johnson Madden of Laurens was raised in the Springfield Baptist Church as he grew up in Laurens and attended the public schools there; and
Whereas, he was called to the ministry only two days before his eighteenth birthday; and
Whereas, he earned the B.S. degree in mathematics from Benedict College and pursued theology studies at J.J. Starks School of Theology; and
Whereas, he retired from Laurens District 55 after twenty-eight years of teaching; and
Whereas, his ministry also has emphasized education as he served as Assistant Dean of the Congress of Christian Education and a dedicated teacher in the School of Christian Education; and
Whereas, The Reverend Madden served for eight years as Moderator of the Tumbling Shoals Association; and
Whereas, his leadership in these areas resulted in, among other improvements, increased participation of the youth and the church as a whole, an update of the Constitution and By-laws, and a growth in support to colleges; and
Whereas, he has served God and his church while embracing his family: his loving wife, Elma Sanders Madden; their children, Stephanie LaTricie, Christopher Niles (Rene e), and Samuel Jason; and grandson Christopher Logan; and
Whereas, he also has served his community as President of the Laurens Teacher Association, member of the District High School Advisory Committee, and board member of the Heart Association and the Senior Citizens Association. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize The Reverend Samuel Niles Madden, Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Fountain Inn, for his thirty-five years of devoted pastoral service and his dedication to Christian education through his leadership in the Congress of Christian Education and the Tumbling Shoals Association.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to The Reverend Madden.
