EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO DAVE THOMAS OF "WENDY'S" FAME FOR THE EXTRAORDINARILY GOOD WORKS HE DOES FOR LOCAL CHARITIES THROUGH THE DAVE THOMAS INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT AT THE WOODLANDS COUNTRY CLUB IN COLUMBIA.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that on May 4 and 5 of this year, the eighth annual Dave Thomas Invitational Golf Tournament was held at the Woodlands Country Club in Columbia; and
Whereas, once again, through the generosity of Dave Thomas and the hard work of tournament organizers, this year's tournament has been an outstanding success, earning more than one hundred fifty thousand dollars for charitable causes, that when added to earlier amounts raised, means more than six hundred fifty thousand dollars for charity since the tournament's inception; and
Whereas, a partial list of contributions includes the Epworth Children's Home, Carolina Children's Home, Providence Hospital Foundation, Palmetto Place, Shriner's Flying Fezzes, Special Olympics, Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, South Carolina Adoption Council, and educational scholarships; and
Whereas, the theme of children in these contributions is clear to all who know of the lifelong commitment of Dave Thomas to children's causes, particularly those assisting adoption efforts, which as an adoptee himself, is a special cause for this thoroughly "down home" decent man whose business acumen and hard work have paid off in an outstandingly successful business, but also made it possible for him to share the fruits of his labor with those in need, and multiply those efforts through his network of friends and associates; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may express their appreciation to Dave Thomas and all the tournament organizers who made the eighth annual Dave Thomas Invitational Golf Tournament such a resounding success. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby express appreciation to Dave Thomas of "Wendy's" fame for the extraordinary good works he does for local charities through the Dave Thomas Invitational Golf Tournament at the Woodlands Country Club in Columbia.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jim Hamilton for presentation to Mr. Dave Thomas.
