TO COMMEND MR. ROOSEVELT SANDY GILLIAM FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Mr. Roosevelt Sandy Gilliam is a graduate of Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, where he had an illustrious career in college athletics and obtained his Master's in Science degree from Indiana University; and
Whereas, he has served as high school athletic director and coach in both Union and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina; and
Whereas, from 1964 to 1968, Mr. Gilliam was the head football coach at Maryland State College (now the University of Maryland Eastern Shore); and
Whereas, he formerly served as a personnel scout for the Denver Broncos organization of the National Football League; and
Whereas, Mr. Gilliam has had extensive experience in both the public and private sectors which includes service as Executive Assistant to the Commissioner of the South Carolina Department of Social Services, a board member and chairman of various committees of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and a fourteen-year career with Springs Industries; and
Whereas, he also has served as Vice President for Development and Industrial Relations at South Carolina State University and currently is employed as Special Assistant to the President for State and Community Relations; and
Whereas, Mr. Gilliam's honors and awards include induction into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame and the Allen University Hall of Fame, receipt of the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest honor, and receipt of the Silver Beaver from the Boy Scouts of America; and
Whereas, he is married to Mrs. Betty Davis Gilliam and together they are the proud parents of three children, Dr. F. Roosevelt Gilliam, III, Dr. Wayne Gilliam, and Dr. Patrice Gilliam; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, publicly recognize and congratulate Mr. Roosevelt Sandy Gilliam for his many accomplishments and service to the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Mr. Roosevelt Sandy Gilliam for his illustrious career in the field of athletics, his academic accomplishments, his contributions to the private sector, and his service to the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gilliam.
