Whereas, Mr. Granger took good advantage of every opportunity offered to him while serving in the Army Air Force. He attended Oklahoma State Teachers College, Edmond, Oklahoma, where he completed several clerical and business related courses and returned home to Greenville at the end of World War II, having been honorably discharged after completing three years of war-time military service; and

Whereas, Mr. Granger began his postwar public service by serving on the West Gantt School's Board of Trustees from 1955 to 1958. He was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1958, served in the House from 1959 to 1966 and from 1969 to 1984, serving as first vice-chairman of the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee, as a member of the State Reorganization Commission, the Textile Study Commission, and the Energy Commission. In 1984, after twenty-four years of service as a legislator, Mr. Granger did not offer for reelection and retired from the House of Representatives; and

Whereas, in addition to legislative service, for a number of years Mr. Granger was chairman of the Greenville Regional Area Transportation Study (GRATS), a member and past president of the Greenville East Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. In 1985, in recognition of his many achievements and contributions to the State and his community, Mr. Granger was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by then Governor Carroll Campbell; and
