A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING DR. JAMES A. BLAKE, SR., OF MARION COUNTY ON RECEIVING THE "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" FROM THE MARION COUNTY DIVISION OF THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, Dr. James A. Blake, Sr., of Marion County is a volunteer for the Marion County Division of the American Heart Association; for the past two years, Dr. Blake has led the South Carolina Affiliate of the American Heart Association as the Chairman of the Board of Directors; under his direction and leadership, the South Carolina Affiliate, for the first time ever, exceeded two million dollars in contributions and corporate donations; and

Whereas, Dr. Blake has also served on several national committees and task forces for the American Heart Association; he has served as National Corporate Secretary for Education and Community Programs, which developed the school site educational materials used in classrooms throughout the United States to educate young people about heart disease and how to be heart healthy; and

Whereas, in September 1997, Dr. Blake received the highest honor ever bestowed upon a lay member; he received the lifetime achievement Award, which recognizes him for many years of service to the American Heart Association; he has worked with the Marion County Division for ten years, serving as president and assisting with every project; and

Whereas, he is a dynamic leader and a man of great compassion; his hard work, dedication, and determination have truly made a difference in many lives; he is truly deserving of the award bestowed upon him; and we are delighted to be able to recognize him in this special manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Dr. James A. Blake, Sr., of Marion County on receiving the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Marion County Division of the American Heart Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Blake.
