A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MS. AGNES DAVIS YOUNG FOR HER OUTSTANDING DEDICATION AS THE DIRECTOR OF SENIOR CITIZENS, CITY OF GREER, ON THE OCCASION OF THE SENIOR CITIZEN'S BANQUET ON FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 1997.

Whereas, Ms. Agnes Davis Young has made innumerable contributions to senior citizens throughout the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young began her career as a teacher in 1956 at Sterling High School where she taught biology, physical education and coached very successful girls' basketball teams; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young taught at Berea High School from 1968 until 1971 and at Carolina High School until her retirement in 1986 as department head; and

Whereas, during her 25 years as a teacher she molded the lives of her students and prepared them for college with her selfless concern for their well-being; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young, since her retirement, has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for senior citizens, making numerous contributions to the community and state; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young has managed the Senior Citizens' Program at the Needmore Center and coordinated the Afterschool Satellite Programs at Cannon Street Gym in Greer, S.C. for the Phyllis Wheatley Association; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young, because of her contributions and dedication to senior citizen programs, has been recognized as a Site Manager of the Year; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young has helped senior citizens and all citizens of the state by her participation in numerous voter registration drives and Get Out to Vote on Election Day Drives; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young is active with the WEL Club and is an instructor for the Senior Exercise Program at two local churches; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young currently is a member of the Epsilon Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Israel Metropolitan CME Church; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis Young has worked in every facet of the community to improve the quality of life for all senior citizens in the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina publicly recognize Ms Agnes Davis Young for her outstanding dedication as the Director of Senior Citizens, City of Greer, on the occasion of the Senior Citizen's Banquet on Friday, April 4, 1997.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Agnes Davis Young.
