A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 178 OF 1995, RELATING TO THE BOARD OF ELECTION AND REGISTRATION OF MCCORMICK COUNTY, SO AS TO FURTHER DEFINE THE PROCEDURE FOR APPOINTING MEMBERS TO THAT BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Sections 1(A) and (B) of Act 178 of 1995 are amended to read:

"(A) There is created the Board of Election and Registration of McCormick County. There are five members of the board who must be appointed by the Governor upon recommendation of a majority of the senators representing McCormick County and a majority of the members of the House of Representatives representing the McCormick County Legislative Delegation , including the Senator, who are appointed for terms of county. The terms of the members of the board shall be four years and until their successors are appointed and qualify, except that initially in order to stagger terms, two members must be appointed for terms of two years. At the expiration of these two-year terms, successors must be appointed for terms of four years. The board shall elect such officers as it considers necessary.

(B) Between the first day of January and the fifteenth day of March of every even-numbered year, the delegation Governor shall appoint the members of the board as provided in subsection (A)."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
