A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND EXTEND SINCERE APPRECIATION FROM THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE BROKERAGE FIRM OF STERNE, AGEE AND LEACH FOR TAKING THE LEAD TO INVOLVE CORPORATE AMERICA IN THE EFFORT TO PRESERVE, RAISE AND DISPLAY THE HISTORIC H.L. HUNLEY SUBMARINE.

Whereas, Sterne, Agee and Leach is a brokerage firm with an office located in Charleston, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Sterne, Agee and Leach has organized and initiated the first benefit gala to benefit the H.L. Hunley submarine and to complete the journey home for the Hunley and her gallant crew who disappeared February 17, 1864, after the first successful submarine attack in history; and

Whereas, Sterne, Agee and Leach has sent a clarion call to other corporations across the nation that their involvement is essential if the Hunley is to be raised and displayed for the enjoyment of our progeny; and

Whereas, it is this type of philanthropy and unselfish leadership that epitomizes the type of corporate citizen South Carolina desires. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly and the people of South Carolina and the world who are interested in this seminal piece of maritime history owe Sterne, Agee and Leach a debt of gratitude for not only holding the first benefit to raise funds for the recovery and display of the Hunley, but also salute it for taking the lead in involving corporate America in the effort to complete the Hunley's journey home.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sterne, Agee and Leach.
