TO CONGRATULATE CHARLES WARREN OF THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY GOLF TEAM ON WINNING THE 1997 NCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT.
Whereas, the members of the Senate were delighted to learn that Charles Warren, a junior on the Clemson Golf Team, has won the 1997 NCAA National Tournament, the first NCAA Champion in Clemson golf history; and
Whereas, Charles Warren of Columbia won the tournament with a five under par 279, including a 67 on the final day of the tournament, the best final round in NCAA Tournament play by a Tiger golfer; and
Whereas, he played the final six holes in three under par to charge to the ultimate victory; and
Whereas, Charles Warren made this marvelous comeback on the final day as he was six shots back when the fourth round began; and
Whereas, this outstanding play by Charles Warren at the NCAA Tournament helped lead Clemson to a number-three national finish, tied for the highest finish in Clemson golf history; and
Whereas, not only is Charles Warren the 1997 NCAA Champion, but also a fine student who made the academic honor roll for the Spring semester of 1997; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate wish, by this resolution, to commend and recognize this lofty achievement to a native South Carolinian who has brought national attention to his State and Clemson University. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate congratulate Charles Warren, of the Clemson University Golf Team, on winning the 1997 NCAA National Tournament.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Charles Warren.
