TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO THE MIDLAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL "MUSTANGS" BASEBALL TEAM OF AIKEN COUNTY ON WINNING THE 1997 AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, teamwork and the cooperative effort by the members of a team to achieve a common goal is absolutely essential to winning in the highly competitive game of baseball; and

Whereas, despite natural athletic ability, that teamwork essential to winning is elusive, and hard to come by in the absence of genuine leadership, skilled coaching, and instruction, personal example, and strength of character, such as makes the whole of a good baseball team greater than the sum of its individual players; and

Whereas, under the outstanding leadership of Coach Bruce Zuehlke and his able assistant coaches, Steve Hibbitts and Shawn Barton, and as a result of the competitive spirit, superb teamwork, and sterling performance of each member of the Midland Valley baseball team, the winning mix came together for the Midland Valley Mustangs on Monday, May 19, 1997, with a Class AAA, Best-of-Three, 8 to 7 win over the rival championship contender Cheraw Braves, and again on Wednesday, May 21, 1997, with a 11 to 9 win over the Cheraw Braves to clinch the State AAA Baseball Championship for 1997; and

Whereas, in recognition of the countless hours of practice, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice reflecting the Mustangs grit and determination to become the 1997 State AAA Baseball Champions, the members of the Senate wish to recognize and congratulate publicly the Midland Valley High School "Mustangs" Baseball team, coaches, and other school officials upon the conclusion of a truly memorable championship season; and

Whereas, the championship team consisted of Cory Bradshaw, Steve Brown, Zay Brown, Gary Busbee, Ryan Grey, Brandon Hair, Derrick Haltiwanger, Adam Herndon, Chris Jones, Mikal Jones, David Kaney, Brandon Kelly, Bert Kinard, Kyle Langley, Josh Moyer, Brian Nappier, Jonathan Nelson, Grant Newman, John Rooks, Bernard Stephens, and scorekeepers Julie Barden and Denine Holley. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the Midland Valley High School "Mustangs" Baseball Team on the occasion of their winning the 1997 State AAA Baseball Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Bruce Zuehlke, Midland Valley High School, Aiken County, South Carolina.
