A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE LEGENDARY BASKETBALL COACH NELSON C. BROWNLEE AS HE LEADS THE CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY PANTHERETTES INTO COMPETITION IN YET ANOTHER NAIA TOURNAMENT.

Whereas, Coach Nelson C. Brownlee has coached the Pantherettes for 25 years, achieving a record 612 wins for Claflin in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics; and

Whereas, Coach Brownlee has won a total of 991 games over a 44-year career and has been named the two-time Converse NAIA National Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, Coach Brownlee has led the Pantherettes to 17 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, seven NAIA District VI championships, two NAIA runner-up slots, two NAIA semifinalist slots, a total of 12 National Tournament appearances and six South Eastern Athletic Conference championships; and

Whereas, many of Coach Brownlee's Pantherettes have continued their achievements, becoming All-Americans, playing professional basketball in Italy and becoming contenders for the WNBA; and

Whereas, Coach Brownlee has recently won two victories of great significance, defeating Morris College on January 22 to win his 600th victory and then defeating Benedict College on March 5 to win the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate would like to honor Coach Brownlee for his outstanding achievements and thank him for his work shaping the lives of his players at Claflin University. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby congratulate Coach Nelson C. Brownlee as he leads the Claflin University Pantherettes into competition at yet another NAIA tournament.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Nelson C. Brownlee.
