RECOGNIZING AND HONORING THE REVEREND DONALD P. DAVIS FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF DEVOTED AND OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS PASTOR OF TRINITY BAPTIST CHURCH OF WEST COLUMBIA.
Whereas, in 1974, a Seed of Faith was planted in the hearts and minds of a few people to build a Christ-centered church in Lexington County, and a group of believers met on March 30, 1974, to discuss this vision; following regular meetings for sixty days, the church was constituted as Trinity Baptist Church on June 2, 1974, with one hundred twenty-four members; and
Whereas, in the fall of that same year, Trinity Baptist Church merged with Line Street Baptist Church; and, on April 20, 1975, the Reverend Donald P. Davis was called as Pastor of Trinity; and
Whereas, under Reverend Davis's leadership, the Seed of Faith continued to grow and membership continued to increase; today the Trinity Family has a membership of nearly seventeen hundred and a magnificent worship center constructed at a cost of two and one-half million dollars; this facility has seating for eighteen hundred ninety people, including one hundred persons in the choir, an orchestra area, a bridal suite, an expanded baptismal area, and space for drama presentations; and
Whereas, Reverend Davis has meant much to the Trinity Family for a quarter century; a native of Chester, he attended North Greenville Junior College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary; he served as associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Columbia and as pastor of First Baptist Church of Kershaw; he has also served as chairman of the Executive Committee of the General Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention; and
Whereas, Reverend Davis is an outstanding, caring, and loving individual; he is a remarkable pastor, and his service has benefited not only Trinity Baptist Church but also the whole community; he is truly a man of faith, vision, and leadership, and we are greatly pleased to have this opportunity to recognize and honor him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Reverend Donald P. Davis for twenty-five years of devoted and outstanding service as pastor of Trinity Baptist Church of West Columbia.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Donald P. Davis.
