Whereas, Dr. William C. (Bill) Moran became President of Lander University in 1992; and

Whereas, from 1978 to 1992, Dr. Moran was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty for Francis Marion University; and

Whereas, from 1975 to 1978, he was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for Winthrop University; and

Whereas, under Dr. Moran's dynamic leadership, from 1992 to 2000, Lander University has experienced genuine success and growth: the student population has increased 14.6 percent; the Faculty Senate was developed and implemented; computer laboratories were enlarged; offices were computerized and updated; and there was a continued positive response on the ACT Student Opinion Survey; and

Whereas, also, the International Studies Program and the Honors Program were restructured; Lander University was brought into compliance with gender equity legislation; the John Drummond Complex was completed, the Laura Lander Hall was restored, the Science Building was erected, and Barratt Hall was refurbished; further, the net worth of the Lander University Foundation increased more than seven million dollars during the eight years Dr. Moran has been at the helm; and these are but a few of the accomplishments and achievements at Lander during his presidency; and

Whereas, under Bill Moran's guidance and leadership, Lander University has grown and flourished and has developed into a premier institution of higher learning; Dr. Moran has given generously of his time, talents, and energy to Lander, the City of Greenwood, Greenwood County, and the State of South Carolina; he is a man of vision and devoted service; and we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize him in advance of his planned retirement on June 30, 2000. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends and thanks Dr. William C. (Bill) Moran for his outstanding, dedicated service as President of Lander University and wishes him much success and happiness following his retirement.
