EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON LEARNING OF THE DEATH OF MARY EIDSON WILLIS OF GRANITEVILLE AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Eidson Willis who passed away Sunday, March 5, 2000; and
Whereas, she was a native of Saluda, attended Furman University, and was a longtime resident of Graniteville; and
Whereas, Mrs. Willis was an exceptional employee at the Savannah River Plant who easily won the trust and confidence of the DuPont Company, rising from an entry level clerical position to become the secretary to a succession of plant managers; and
Whereas, the period she served in the management offices was characterized by excellent employee relations, due in large part to the "open door" policy that Mrs. Willis maintained for all; and
Whereas, her warmth and friendly nature extended to all visitors to the company, making her a wonderful DuPont ambassador of goodwill; and
Whereas, Mrs. Willis' kind, warm, and gentle ways were just as evident in her church and community life as they had been in her professional career; and
Whereas, she was a faithful, longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church where she was selfless and untiring in giving of her time and many talents and most especially in sharing her love of music as a member of the St. James Church Choir; and
Whereas, Mrs. Willis was a loving wife and devoted mother and she is survived by her husband L. L. "Ash" Willis, her son Michael L. Willis, and one grandchild; and
Whereas, Mrs. Willis was dearly loved and respected by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon learning of the death of Mary Eidson Willis of Graniteville and extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. L. L. "Ash" Willis.
